Newborn Screening: Adrenogenital Syndrome
19 April
Since 2005, the "Arabkir" Medical Center has been conducting and submitting various newborn screening programs for state approval, including congenital hypothyroidism, hearing screening, phenylketonuria, and hip dysplasia. Last year, adrenogenital syndrome was added to this list and successfully implemented nationwide.   The goal of these screenings is to examine newborns within the first days of life, often right in the maternity hospital, to detect potential issues early and intervene promptly. Early diagnosis helps prevent complications and disabilities.   Public TV channel "News" recently covered this important topic, highlighting the impact of newborn screening programs.    #neonatalscreening #adrenogenitalsyndrome
Day of Laboratory Diagnostics Specialists
15 April
April 15 is celebrated as the Day of Laboratory Diagnostics Specialists. We warmly congratulate the employees of our laboratory service and their colleagues, wishing them good health and the opportunity to work in peaceful and uninterrupted conditions. Thank you, dear specialists!  The laboratory service of the "Arabkir" Medical Center operates every day, around the clock, providing a full range of diagnostic services to people of all ages — from newborns to adults and the elderly — regardless of whether they are patients at the "Arabkir" Medical Center. Liver Transplant for Baby Narek
06 November 24
At just 5 days old, baby Narek was diagnosed with biliary atresia—a congenital condition involving the absence of intrahepatic bile ducts. His only chance for survival was a liver transplant. Narek was immediately placed under the care of gastroenterologist-hepatologists at the "Arabkir" Medical Center. According to protocol, he needed to grow to 7-8 kilograms—typically achieved by 6-7 months old—before he could undergo the transplant. Narek was growing well with his mother’s milk and reached the required weight. The operation was scheduled for November 1, and our dedicated team of doctors and staff prepared for the procedure. However, an unexpected turn occurred: due to an acute respiratory infection, Narek quickly developed liver failure, disrupting all prior plans. Our team faced the immense challenge of arranging the operation within hours. In what seemed improbable, everything came together. Colleagues from Minsk and Korea arrived to assist, and the transplant took place on October 29. Narek’s devoted father selflessly donated part of his liver. The surgery went smoothly, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the specialists involved. Currently, Narek and his doctors are navigating the challenging post-surgical journey, making progress each day with increasingly positive outcomes. During this critical time, as always, The Health Fund for Children of Armenia, led by Armen Martirosyan, stood by our side. The Fund’s financial support, made possible by generous public donations, is invaluable not only to our medical center but to our country, as the surgery costs far exceed what the state can cover. This collaboration between the state, charitable organizations, and medical institutions exemplifies the power of unity for the sake of a child's life. Thank you to everyone who contributed ❤️ Wishing health to Narek and all children ❤️

Virtual Reality Glasses for Pain Relief
19 May 23
Arthur and Alen came to the “Arabkir” Medical Center to be examined, which usually begins in the laboratory. Boys, of course, are brave and not so afraid of “bee sting”, but our partner 10X Immersive has made this process more entertaining for them and all other children.  With virtual reality (VR) glasses, children appear directly in the center of the cartoon, becoming, for example, a captain who protects the ship from attackers, or another hero who has to help animals. And at the same time, our skilled nurses perform the intervention without causing any discomfort or pain to the children.   According to psychologists, this is a good way to divert children’s attention at that moment and to carry out the intervention quickly and without stress. According to some studies, with the help of virtual reality glasses, the pain threshold can be reduced by up to 35%, which primarily helps children and their parents, as well as, of course, specialists. Our laboratory nurses, who work with children every day, say that since the glasses appeared, the crying is less, everyone does their own thing: the children watch their cartoons, and the nurse takes samples.   Arthur and Alen also admit that they didn’t feel anything. Alen says: I’ve heard that there are such glasses, but I’ve never worn them. It was very fun, it’s a pity it didn’t last long.   Thank you, 10X Immersive team!

Recently, she came up with a good initiative: she works in a company for a day and donates her salary to the Health Fund for Children of Armenia #HFCArmenia.   Our guest is a Laboratory Doctor by her third degree and the PCR, microbiological and biochemical blood tests she’s done are a good cause to return to that speciality.    Thank you, dear Arusik!
